La Liga Outright Odds for 2023/24

The La Liga outright odds means that you are betting on which team will win the tournament in the 2023/24 season. Usually, Spain’s two giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona, battle it out for the top spot in the La Liga odds, Atletico Madrid come in third, and the other Spanish teams fall far behind.

These three teams have dominated the competition for the past 15 years, and the last time La Liga had a different winner was way back in 2003/04 when Valencia under coach Rafa Benitez came out triumphant. This season things are no different.

LA LIGA CONTENDERS BET365 ODDS
Real Madrid 1.72
Barcelona 2.75
Atletico Madrid 9.00
Real Sociedad 51.00
Villarreal 67.00
Real Betis 81.00
Sevilla 101.00
Athletic Bilbao 101.00
Osasuna 501.00
Celta Vigo 501.00

Perhaps surprisingly, Real Madrid are the favourites in the La Liga odds for 2023/24 despite missing out on the title last term. Los Blancos are tipped ahead of defending champions Barcelona even though they lost their captain Karim Benzema during the summer and key players like Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois suffered season-ending injuries. Jude Bellingham’s arrival may mitigate those problems.

Barcelona are not that far behind in the La Liga winner odds for 2023/24, though. The Catalans’ main issue this season may be their thin squad, as they have just 19 first-team players when coaches usually prefer at least two players in each position going into the season.

As for Atletico Madrid, they have been playing great football since the start of 2023 but their main issues remain the same – poorer squad quality compared to Real Madrid and Barcelona and the need to compete both domestically and continentally. Thus, they are only third in thee La Liga winner odds.

Most Wins in La Liga

Real Madrid and Barcelona are the two Spain giants, having won La Liga on 35 and 27 occasions respectively. Best among the rest is Atletico Madrid with 11 title wins. Athletic Bilbao was once a considerable force in La Liga as they have eight such trophies in their cabinet, although the most recent one was in 1983/84.

Last season, the title went to Barcelona, as the Catalans put an end to their three-year title drought. So, here is what the all-time La Liga title wins list looks like going into the 2023/24 term.

TEAM NUMBER OF LA LIGA TITLE WINS
Real Madrid 35
Barcelona 27
Atletico Madrid 11
Athletic Bilbao 8
Valencia 6
Real Sociedad 2
Deportivo La Coruna 1
Sevilla 1
Real Betis 1

La Liga Relegation Odds for 2023/24

A team suffers relegation from La Liga if they end up in the 20th, 19th or 18th place at the end of the season. There are only three teams in Spain that have never been relegated – Real Madrid, Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao. Everyone else has been demoted to the Segunda Division at least once in their history.

Going into the 2023/24 term, the bookmakers’s favourites to suffer relegation are some of the teams that only ascended like Las Palmas and Granada as well as clubs like Almeria and Mallorca and who didn’t have the best showing last season. Surprisingly, Sevilla are also on the list despite winning the Europa League last term.

TEAM WILLIAM HILL ODDS
Las Palmas 1.63
Almeria 1.73
Granada 2.10
Alaves 3.25
Mallorca 3.25
Getafe 3.50
Cadiz 5.00
Rayo Vallecano 8.00
Osasuna  9.00
Sevilla 9.00

La Liga Top Scorer Odds for 2023/24

Betting on the La Liga Top Scorer means that you pick the player that will finish the 2023/24 season with the most goals in Spain’s top flight. Last season, Robert Lewandowski claimed the first spot with 23 strikes, and he is considered the bookmakers’ runaway favourite once again. Especially since his main competitor, Karim Benzema, no longer plays in La Liga.

Many have noted Lewandowski’s dip in form in the second half of the previous campaign, so players like Jude Bellingham, Antoine Griezmann, Vinicius Junior and others may stand a chance as well.

PLAYER WILLIAM HILL ODDS
Robert Lewandowski 1.50
Jude Bellingham 11.00
Antoine Griezmann 15.00
Alvaro Morata 15.00
Vinicius Junior 15.00
Rodrygo  17.00
Alexander Sorloth 21.00
Youssef En-Nesyri 23.00
Borja Iglesias 23.00
Joselu 23.00

Past La Liga Top Goal Scorers

The player who finishes the La Liga season with the most goals is awarded the Pichichi Trophy, named after the Athletic Bilbao legendary striker Rafael ‘Pichichi’ Moreno. Last season, the award went to Robert Lewandowski who scored 23 times in Barcelona’s title run.

However, the player with the most Pichichi Trophies in history is none other than Lionel Messi with eight such awards. The Argentine also holds the record for the most goals scored in a single La Liga campaign, netting 50 times in 37 appearances in 2011/12.

A list of past Pichichi Trophy winners is presented below. Curiously, the last player to win the award while not playing for either Barcelona or Real Madrid was Diego Forlan in 2008/09 when the Uruguayan scored 32 goals for Atletico Madrid.

WINNERS SEASON GOALS
Roberto Lewandowski 2022/23 23
Karim Benzema 2021/22 27
Lionel Messi 2020/21 30
Lionel Messi 2019/20 25

About La Liga Betting

La Liga is top flight in the Spanish football system and one of Europe's top five leagues. In the past 20 years, the league has been mostly dominated by two clubs – Barcelona and Real Madrid, with 11 and six titles respectively. Atletico Madrid regularly finished in the top three, although Los Colchoneros also ran away with the title on two occasions during this period.

The 2023/24 La Liga season started on 11 August 2023 and will end on 26 May 2024. The competition consists of 20 teams, including three teams that were promoted from Segunda Division at the start of the season.

In the 2023/24 La Liga season, each team will play the remaining 19 teams twice, at home and away, this resulting in 38 total matchweeks. The 2023/24 La Liga winners will be determined by the number of points at the end of the season. The top four teams will play in the next year’s Champions League while while the teams in fifth and sixth spots qualify for Europa League and Conference League respectively. Finally, the three teams with the least points will be relegated to the Segunda Division.

Two important individual awards in La Liga are the Pichichi Trophy awarded to the league’s best goalscorer and the Zamora Trophy awarded to the best goalkeeper which is determined by the best goals conceded per game ratio. Last year, Barcelona won the league title, Robert Lewandowski was the best goalscorer and Marc-Andre ter Stegen was the best goalkeeper.

What factors to consider when betting on La Liga?

When betting on La Liga, it is important to keep in mind that the league is not as offensive as it used to be 10 years ago. Now, most of the smaller clubs prefer to play with deep blocks and commit a large amount of fouls, especially when playing against the La Liga favourites like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Moreover, the referees in La Liga are less liberal in their approach and tend to show more yellow and red cards during matches compared to their colleagues from other top European leagues. Finally, one should not forget that the difference between Barcelona, Real Madrid and the rest of the teams is not as great as it used to be, so it is rare that we see high-scoring games like we did in the past.
